For your Shape Unit, you'll complete 2 artworks! The first is called a NOTAN design. Watch the PowerPoints and the YouTube videos below to see examples and a tutorial. I expect your final artwork to show creativity and look like a high school student created it! It should be fairly detailed. You may choose to add additional elements, colors, papers, scrap paper, colored pencil, marker, etc. to your final piece.

Organic/Geometric Shape Collage

Next, you'll cover a paper with magazine photos. Use GEOMETRIC shapes (squares, rectangles or long rectangular strips) and glue down so that no background paper shows. You'll probably want to overlap the edges a bit. I recommend that you limit the colors to 3 maximum, avoiding white. Then, you'll draw some thumbnail sketches of an ORGANIC shape design. Select your best one and cut it out of white paper. Use an X-acto knife if you need to cut designs out of the center of the paper. Use the scissors when you can as they are easier to manage. Play around with the cut paper pieces BEFORE you glue. Make sure the magazine colors are the STAR of the artwork.
